By Theodore Jurado DEFENDING champion University of Santo Tomas went to the wringer before defeating La Salle, 21-19, 22-20, to become the lone unbeaten women’s team in the UAAP beach volleyball tournament yesterday at the UE Caloocan sand court. The Tigresses’ pair of reigning MVP Judy Caballejo and Maru Banaticla grabbed the solo lead with a 3-0 record entering the halfway mark of the short elimination round. The Lady Archers duo of Wensh Tiu and Kim Fajardo suffered their first loss after going 2-0 to open the season. La Salle thus dropped in a tie with National University, Adamson…

By Theodore Jurado UNIVERSITY of Santo Tomas opened its title-retention bid in style by posting two straight wins in the UAAP women’s beach volleyball tournament Saturday at the UE Caloocan sand court. Reigning MVP Judy Caballejo and Maru Banaticla of the Tigresses needed three sets to survive Adamson’s Pau Soriano and Sheila Pineda, 19-21, 21-16, 15-13, and returned in the afternoon session with an easy 21-13, 21-13 win over Loryvel Faytaren and Sam Dawson of Far Eastern University. Lady Tams not joining 2nd conference

By Ashley Ace Angeles FAR Eastern University will not be joining the 2nd conference of the 9th Shakey’s V-League. According to coaches Nes Pamilar and Shaq delos Santos, the Lady Tamaraws will be skipping the open conference for their wards to focus on their academics and to get ready for their buildup for Season 75. It could be noted that the FEU spikers missed a week’s worth of classes last week, when they joined the Friendship Tournament in Tuguegarao, Cagayan. The Lady Tamaraws’ dismal performance there, coupled with the need to prepare hard for their biggest tournament of the…

The Fighting Maroons need you to keep fight alive

Help keep the Fighting Maroons' fight alive. (Photo by Josh Albelda/UAAPSports.TV)

THE University of the Philippines Fighting Maroons is one of those teams that compete hard in the UAAP wars year in, year out. They do this despite meager funding from the government and without the rabid student and alumni support schools like Ateneo de Manila University, De La Salle University and University of Santo Tomas have. And as they journey into another campaign in Season 75, the Fighting Maroons plead for your help to keep the flag waving. Hence, this letter from skipper Mico Lucindo:   The UP Men’s Volleyball Team (UPMVT) is a group of highly-motivated, energetic and…

UAAP S75 unveils its own ‘Call Me, Maybe’ version

uaap75

By The Dispatcher THE 75th season of the UAAP is just around the corner and with die-hard fans raring to get a glimpse of the exciting action the country’s most popular collegiate league entails, we chanced upon this “Call Me, Maybe” video featuring basketball stars from all eight squads. With muscular guys starring, the video looks a little bland, with the cagers not going “all out, all heart” unlike several incarnations of the Carly Rae Jepsen imitations we’ve seen. So volleyball fans, why don’t we call on ABS-CBN Sports to do something like this in November, when volleyball season…
